Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Health Link Training is committed to delivering quality customised training and assessments for industry continuous improvement and creating career pathways.

HLT has industry-experienced assessors who will assess and interview students on the job via a recognition of prior learning process and assess their competence towards this qualification.

This means that students can earn their qualification through their skills and experience, without the need for further study

What is RPL?

RPL is the acknowledgment of skills and knowledge obtained through learning achieved outside the formal education and training system and includes work and life experience. RPL measures these skills and experience against the qualification in which students are enrolled.

The individual may not need to complete any or all of a training program if he or she already possesses some of the competencies taught in the program. (Department of Training & Workforce Development)

Why Us?

Health Link Training uses a “holistic” practice to RPL.  A “holistic” assessment occurs when several related competencies are assessed at the same time.

This approach focuses on the assessment of a whole-of-job or function that may draw on a number of units of competency or on different parts of one or more competencies.

RPL Steps: How does it Work?

  1. Student Employment History
  2. Written & Oral Questions
  3. Practical Observation
  4. Third Party Report (containing all performance criteria)
  5. Supplementary Evidence Portfolio

Supplementary Evidence

It is important that you provide information of your experience. Examples of documents may include:

  • CV with your duties/job description
  • Certificates/results of assessment
  • Statement of attendance in workshops and or seminars etc
  • Professional memberships to relevant associations
  • Industry awards
  • References/letters from previous employers/supervisors

What if I do not have enough evidence in a unit?

HLT can provide gap-training resources.  We will include up to 2 units at NO extra charge.

How long will it take?

You will have your nationally recognised qualification within 3 - 6 months upon completing the 5 steps in the kit provided; submitting all the supplementary evidence and undertaking a competency conversation and practical skills competency assessment with our trainer.
